On Saturday, February 7th, Al-Ahrar Toronto attended the second online international seminar of The Masar Badil: The Palestinian Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement with guest speaker and former political prisoner Hussam Badran of Hamas.

Hussam Badran’s Seminar
Hussam Badran is a leader in the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), member of the Political Bureau, a liberated Palestinian prisoner, and head of Hamas’ National Relations Department.
During his talk, comrade Hussam provided a very thorough breakdown of the challenges faced by the Resistance as they secure relief and shelter for the displaced Palestinian people of Gaza. He clarified that any political agreement with the Zionist entity, the most recent of which he called “unjust”, does not mean a defeat of the Palestinian people. In fact, the comrade repeatedly affirmed the strength and steadfastness of the Palestinian people and their Resistance, that “we are not broken, we are not defeated, we are not triumphed.”
Comrade Hussam emphasized the unity amongst the Palestinian factions and frequently cited that his positions are not just that of Hamas, but of all the Resistance factions. He also designated the Axis of Resistance as extensions of the Palestinian Resistance and that there is formidable social and political basis for the sacrifices that have been made in Lebanon, Iran, and Yemen.
What is To Be Done?
Comrade Hussam was clear in his words that what is of primary importance is exposing and delegitimizing the Zionist occupation regime. He asserted that we must isolate it from all sides, pursuing its leaders, commanders, and soldiers through diversified actions of all kinds. He stressed the importance of finding new means, forms, and mechanisms to approach this project, especially with youth as “they are freer from the chokehold of the dominant narrative.”
Diplomatic, boycott, artistic, media, cultural, political, and legal campaigns are all effective and must continue, he said, “even if the photos of the daily killings disappear.” “We, in the Hamas movement, consider the Resistance as a comprehensive project,” rather than solely a military project.
The comrade pointed to preserving the voices of Palestinians in their homeland and supporting their steadfastness as of extreme importance, but equally affirmed the role of the diaspora in the struggle for liberation and return and the sacrifices being made abroad, too.
Of course, comrade Hussam also emphasized the need to preserve the sincere and logical narrative that the Resistance is not pointless. “The entire region is at risk, especially with attacks on Iran and other countries— the compass must be clear,” he said. Two versions of Our Narrative were published in multiple languages and yet our narrative continues to be distorted, he said. Palestinians and their supporters must disseminate this political framework to the masses of the world.
On the topic of the prisoners, comrade Hussam answered Al-Ahrar Toronto’s question about the most important aspect of the Palestinian prisoners’ movement that we must amplify right now. He said that exposing the suffering that the prisoners are subjected to is of primary importance, that Palestinians have always known this but now we are able to reveal this to the world. From the sadistic affairs to the living successes of the prisoners’ movement, every single prisoner’s story needs to be told.
Intervention from Khaled Barakat: “The Resistance Owns These Arms”
The seminar included weighty remarks from comrade Khaled Barakat of the Masar’s Executive Committee about the new era that we have entered, one that we cannot retreat from. Going back after October 7th, he said, will be destroying the sacrifices of our people, as “we are waging a battle to gain the legitimacy of our struggle.”
Comrade Khaled asserted that Hamas is the backbone of the Resistance and represents the entire Palestinian people’s struggle for liberation. On the topic of armed resistance, he reminded the audience that “the weapon of Hamas and Hezbollah belong to the Palestinian people, the Resistance owns these arms” and that “the vast majority of the Palestinian population support this and have sacrificed their lives for these arms.”
The Palestinian current that advocates otherwise is a Palestinian capitalist class— one of the tools of the occupation— that cannot be part of the project of liberation and return because their interests are threatened by the Resistance, the comrade said. The project of capitulation and individual interest that monopolizes decision-making cannot be partnered with, he affirmed.
Intervention from Felix Bahret: Free Mohammed Khatib!
The international seminar also included an important intervention by comrade Felix Bahret of Samidoun Belgium on the current detention of Mohammed Khatib, Masar Badil Executive Committee member and Samidoun’s European Coordinator. Comrade Mohammed is being detained by Greek authorities on the island of Crete in yet another brazen attack on Palestinians in exile bravely confronting the Zionist enemy and its collaborators.
Comrade Felix explained that this political detention of Mohammed comes at the heels of a trilateral framework between the Zionist entity, Greece, and Cyprus which the Masar not only denounced, but called for escalated popular struggle against to expose these partnerships that infiltrate vital Greek infrastructure and halt any attempts to transform Athens into a “regional Zionist hub”.
Al-Ahrar Toronto uplifts these calls to free Mohammed Khatib and all Palestinian political prisoners!
