Today, May 15th, is the anniversary of the Nakba, marking the 78th year since the start of the Zionist colonial occupation of Palestine. 78 years ago on this day, Zionists expelled over 750,000 Palestinians from their homes, destroyed their villages and committed massacres against them.
As we commemorate this painful event, we also commemorate, with great pride and admiration, the ongoing heroic resistance by Palestinians against the Zionist project. Since before the Nakba, Palestinians have been bravely fighting colonizers, both Zionist and British, and their resistance in all its forms has not wavered until this day. From armed struggle, to cultural and artistic expression, to the ongoing documenting of their history, Palestinians have not allowed the enemy’s violence towards them to deter them from their ongoing struggle for national liberation. Their steadfastness and conviction are a torch lighting the path of liberation for all nations fighting against imperialism and colonial domination.
Khaled Barakat, a member of the Executive Committee of the Masar Badil, says that restoring May 15th as “The Day of Palestinian Struggle” does not mean diminishing the historical importance of the Nakba. But he reminds us that “confronting this ongoing Nakba cannot be achieved solely by weeping over the past or revisiting scenes of displacement. It requires highlighting the path of popular and armed resistance, the steadfastness of the prisoners, the uprisings of the people, the refugees’ commitment to the right of return, and the growing international solidarity with Palestine.”
On this day, the Day of Palestinian Struggle, Al-Ahrar salutes the Palestinian people, their brave resistance and their comrades in struggle in the Axis of Resistance. From Palestine to Lebanon, from Yemen to Iran, the war against the US-Zionist enemy and their imperialist allies is a historic one that will rid the world of the brutality of these monstrous imperialist enemies.
Glory to the Martyrs!
Long Live Palestine!
Victory is Near!
